Sculpture Walk

“Aplomb” – Luke Achterberg
<!--[if !supportLists]-->1.     <!--[endif]-->First Impressions:
<!--[if !supportLists]-->a.     <!--[endif]-->Sleek
<!--[if !supportLists]-->b.     <!--[endif]-->Abstract
<!--[if !supportLists]-->c.     <!--[endif]-->Vivid
<!--[if !supportLists]-->d.     <!--[endif]-->Wild
<!--[if !supportLists]-->e.     <!--[endif]-->Strange
<!--[if !supportLists]-->2.     <!--[endif]-->I like the color of the sculpture. It is eye catching especially because orange and blue are my favorite colors. I like how free flowing the structure is. The material used adds to this piece. It makes it seem as if it is a three-dimensional work of graffiti.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->3.     <!--[endif]-->I don’t like the setup of the sculpture. If it was crazier and added a few more swirls, I believe it would make this piece better. I feel like he didn’t seem to take many risks in this piece. He could have taken it further.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->4.     <!--[endif]-->If possible I would most definitely purchase this sculpture. It fits my personality perfectly. I love the colors and I believe it could be the center of attention in my home.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->5.     <!--[endif]-->I believe this sculpture represents hot rodding because Achterberg was very interested in this subject. I can picture a zooming car racing around a racetrack. It is wild containing twists and turns. I believe the sculpture embodies a more wild side to life. It symbolizes living young, wild, and free. The sculpture makes uses of the surrounding space very efficiently. The piece is eye catching and draws the viewer to wonder why.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->6.     <!--[endif]-->I do believe that this sculpture has a strong frontal presentation. The majority of the curves are centered in the front as you gaze upon the piece. The piece is interesting from every angle that you look at it. Every angle is different. When the sun is shining, the colors of the piece are bright and vivid. It does seem to enhance the work as a whole. The material is the same throughout as a sort of sheet metal.
7.     The work is very geometric. It is simplified, but it is a simple elegance that makes this piece so great. The surface is enhaced by the vivid colors. The work is smooth and abstracted.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->             Overall, I find this piece to be really cool and I enjoy looking at it.

“Persona” – Joe Sackett
<!--[if !supportLists]-->1.     <!--[endif]-->First Impressions:
<!--[if !supportLists]-->a.     <!--[endif]-->Different
<!--[if !supportLists]-->b.     <!--[endif]-->Eye-catching
<!--[if !supportLists]-->c.     <!--[endif]-->Inspirational
<!--[if !supportLists]-->d.     <!--[endif]-->Wondrous
<!--[if !supportLists]-->e.     <!--[endif]-->Bland
<!--[if !supportLists]-->2.     <!--[endif]-->I like the idea of this sculpture. It makes me really think about the personality that I give off to others. I like how there are different aspects to the piece such as the wood and metal. It makes me question if people really do change for their surroundings.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->3.     <!--[endif]-->I don’t like how the steel has been arranged in a similar pattern and how the wood is different colors randomly. I find this piece somewhat hypocritical when color is being added to the wood. I also don’t like that the top isn’t covered. There is a space missing in the pattern of metal.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->4.     <!--[endif]-->I don’t believe that I would purchase this piece. It isn’t very appealing, but I do like the message that it gives off. It is a well thought out piece.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->5.     <!--[endif]-->I believe the subject matter represents a person. The wood represents a personal “core” while the welded steel represents a shield we put up as a façade to the whole world. I believe it embodies a personality that is real. Being who you are is portrayed through this. The sculpture reaches out to the viewer and draws them in.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->6.     <!--[endif]-->This sculpture does have a strong frontal presentation. It draws you in. The sculpture is visually interesting from all sides and angles. It is a 360 view that is similar on each side. The only difference is the wood. The wood is different at every angle. This adds more to the piece that not everyone is the same. The natural lighting highlights the piece. The material is creatively placed with wood in the center and steel surrounding it.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->7.     <!--[endif]-->The work is geometric and it is very detailed. The surface is enhanced by the texture of the wood and the pattern of the steel. The surface is rough and the sculpture is abstract.
                        I like the idea of this piece. It has a strong message. It is an eye opener to how people’s personalities can become fake and changing.

“Survival” – Nathan Pierce

<!--[if !supportLists]-->1.     <!--[endif]-->First Impressions:
<!--[if !supportLists]-->a.     <!--[endif]-->Unique
<!--[if !supportLists]-->b.     <!--[endif]-->Worn
<!--[if !supportLists]-->c.     <!--[endif]-->Strength
<!--[if !supportLists]-->d.     <!--[endif]-->Thoughtful
<!--[if !supportLists]-->e.     <!--[endif]-->Persistence
<!--[if !supportLists]-->2.     <!--[endif]-->I like how the sculpture is created using various different materials. By using wire, sheet metal, and wood, it reveals the complexity of the human mind. It makes me wonder how this piece is still sharing its’ message. It has lasted and is still relevant. Hope is evident. It makes me hopeful that no problem of mine is too big. I can survive.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->3.     <!--[endif]-->I don’t like how this piece isn’t colorful. I believe a more vibrant color would help this piece give off hope and strength. I do understand that it is worn to show the trials of time, but I feel he could have incorporated more materials into his piece.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->4.     <!--[endif]-->I do like his sculpture. I would possibly purchase it as a reminder that everything has a breaking point, but with proper repairs things can be set right. Furthermore, I would use it to remind me that everything happens for a reason.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->5.     <!--[endif]-->I believe this sculpture represent the struggles faced by humans and how they overcome them. I believe it embodies hope and the will to survive. The fight to never give up and to keep moving forward is what I draw from this piece. It is okay to struggle and feel pain, but that is ultimately how we know that we are still alive.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->6.     <!--[endif]-->I believe this sculpture does have a strong frontal presentation. It did catch my eye and make me wonder about the piece. It drew me in. It is visually interesting from all sides. Each side has different angles and diagonals. The natural lighting does help to enhance the slight use of blue color. It makes the piece noticeable. The material is used very creatively. The base is sheet metal and then wood is incorporated. Wires are used to connect the two pieces together. Once again, it is topped with more sheet metal and then wires are protruding up out towards the sky.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->7.     <!--[endif]-->The work is primarily geometric and is simplified. The surface is enhanced by the pattern of sheet metal. The surface is smooth to the touch. This piece is very abstracted and different.
                        I like how this piece changes your perception of life and our fight for survival. I enjoyed Pierce’s message.
